A few of our favorite spots
-
South Beach
Head south from the hotels to find Miami South Beach. Lively night life, excellent people watching and beautiful architecture.
For a nice walk, start at South Point Park, a good place to catch the gigantic cruise ships come and go. Then head north to the Art Deco District and find a nice hotel to stop in for food and drinks, such as The Betsy Hotel.
Other top spots include Joe’s Stone Crab for the famous stone crab found in south Florida, Abbey Brewing Company, Tropezón gin and tapas bar, and Sweet Liberty for a solid happy hour menu.
-
Mid Beach
Mid-beach is where the hotels are located. The beach itself is lovely and all public, so feel free to take over a towel and enjoy! You can pop over to The Broken Shaker in the Freehand hotel for a drink outside in their funky courtyard. We also love Blue Ribbon Sushi and Grill at the Plymouth Hotel and Gitano at Casa Faena.
Head down the Venetian Causeway to find beautiful views of the bay side from Lido Bayside Grill at The Standard.
For a more swanky experience head over to the Living Room at the Faena hotel or the Matador Room at the Edition - both great spots for a pre or post dinner cocktail!
-
Wynwood
Take an Uber to our local neighbourhood, Wynwood, for an afternoon of street art, breweries and restaurants.
You’ll find plenty of amazing street art as you walk around but can also pay to enter Wynwood Walls or join a walking tour.
Work your way through local beers as La Cerveceria Tropical, Veza Sur and J Wakefield. Catch live music at Gramps and late night cocktail and vinyl at Dante’s HiFi.
For dinner, try our favourite New Orleans-style hangout spot, Lagniappe. Grab meat, cheese and drinks from the wine shop inside and head out to the courtyard for relaxed dining under the fairy lights. We also love Bakan for authentic Mexican food and Doya for incredible Mediterranean.
-
Downtown
In downtown Miami you will find a few great museums - the Perez Art Museum that boasts a beautiful private collection of modern art, a delicious restaurant overlooking the water and a great gift shop. It also neighbours the Frost Science museum - one of Henry’s favourites! Be sure to catch a planetarium show and pet the sting rays.
You can stroll through Bayside Park and head over to the History of Miami museum where you can learn all about the beginnings of Miami up to its modern history.
One of the islands between here and Miami Beach is called Jungle Island, a great stop for kids. You can also find the Miami Children’s Museum here. And for adults, book a lunch at the bougie Joia Beach Club.
-
Little Havana
Spend an afternoon in Cuba, without leaving Miami by strolling down Calle Ocho in Little Havana!
A guided food tour is a delicious way to learn the history of the area or return in the evening for a lively night out.
Be sure to catch Cuban food classics at Old Havana and Sanguich or delicious street Thai food at Lung Yai Tapas. Round the night of with beers at Union Beer and mojitos at the historic Ball and Chain.
-
Coral Gables
One of the most historic areas of Miami is Coral Gables. Here you will step into a totally different side of Miami, you might even see some peacocks!
We love walking the grounds of the incredible Vizcaya as well as touring the house. You can also go for a nice walk through Fairchild Botanical Gardens and see some beautiful butterflies.
It is also fun to swing by the Venetian Pool and grab a drink at the Biltmore Hotel. In terms of our other favorite eats - get your coffee and pastries from Bachour, grab a Cuban sandwich at Havana Harry’s, tuck into some tacos at Taco Rico, and watch the sunset over some delicious fish at the Rusty Pelican.
